Dance life in the ACT has been busy this year, and commenced in February with our ZEST: Dance for Wellbeing Team welcoming back our many dancers to our classes across the ACT. Our theme for the term focusses on music and songs mentioning the word DANCE – and has opened up a Pandora’s box of dance delights, from many past decades and exotic destinations!
In March the ZEST: Dance for Wellbeing Team presented a fabulous session at ELEVATE – a 2 day Professional Development program for Dance for Parkinson’s Australia Dance Teaching Artists from across the nation. We focussed on the use of props in class, and how they can enrich the dance experience in many diverse ways. We danced with Japanese fans, stretch bands, rain-sticks and hats!
In May we will be presenting a free open dance class as part of the Ausdance ACT Australian Dance Week. Titled LEAPING & LOITERING @ THE LIBRARY, the class will take place at THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF AUSTRALIA on Friday 2 May We hope we might even attract some dancing politicians as they nimbly fox trot around Parliament House in the warmup to Election Day on 3 May!
On Sunday 4 May, Parkinson’s ACT and The Hospital Research Foundation Group are delighted to host the annual Picnic in the Park, at the Yarralumla Yacht Club. Alongside presentations from the Parkinson’s Choir and Painters, the dance group will be sharing several dances from our classes – and all ZEST dancers are invited to join in and support this important awareness raising event for the Parkinson’s community.
Dance life in the ACT is full and fun, and all visitors to town are welcome to join us at anytime. Check out all our classes here.
