Western Australia News Update – November

By November 5, 2024No Comments

In WA, in October – comes Kambarang season – the explosion of native flowers signalling the beginning of the hottest time of the year. We had a wonderful time dancing in the mild start of ‘springtime’. Huge thanks to all the teachers, volunteers and partnering organisations who have helped us sprout our weekly community classes this term. It has been a delight to dance with your communities and connect over our themed classes. Each class now has the two-teacher model in place – of which we are super-proud.

Thank you to the City of Kwinana, City of Vincent and City of Dalkeith who are supporting our classes.

We still have places available at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (Mondays 10 – 11am) and Dalkeith Hall (Fridays 11 – 12noon) and welcome new dancers to these classes.

The world premiere of ‘WHORL’ at the Mandurah Arts Festival happened at the end of September. There were thirty dancers in the WHORL ensemble who learned the choreography of this new seated dance performance. Thank you to the City of Mandurah for supporting.

Parkinson’s WA – Walk in the Park – This annual event which raises awareness of people with Parkinson’s and their families – was a huge success this year with a record number of 500 registration and over $100,000 in donations. Congratulations to the PWA team for inviting us to ‘warm-up’ the walkers for the event – it was a delight for Ella and I to dance with the extended Parkinson’s community, and to meet P-Rex
