Sydney Class 2024 Round Up

By December 18, 2024No Comments

It’s been a busy year with our classes in Sydney. We have five weekly classes in different areas, with 2025 offering a sixth in the Concord area in collaboration with Concord Hospital. Our classes are in Pennant Hills, Bondi Junction, Rozelle, Mosman and Allawah.

We have had some guest teachers in our classes over the years and this has added an extra excitement. See Pennant Hills article separately. We also had a wonderful Intergenerational class in Annandale, facilitated by Renata and Natasha of Moove and Groove. This was a wonderful opportunity for generations to dance together and explore our ‘inner child”. We delivered a pilot series of classes in Cardinal Freeman and Montefiore (Randwick) Aged Care facilities and we are looking at ways to allow this to continue in 2025. We also deliver an online (Zoom) class each Wednesday from 1-2pm – all are welcome to this. This is a National class and we have people from all over Australia joining in the fun! Please email dance@dancepdau.org for more information and to register for any of the in person or online classes.

Our dedicated team of teachers have gone above and beyond to deliver creative, inclusive and fun classes to each cohort. DPA would like to thank each of them for their care and dedication. Our volunteers too deserve a huge round of applause as they turn up each week, help set up, take the roll and welcome each participant with a smile. Thank you!!

Our Sydney committee continues to keep the cogs turning and ensure smooth running of the Sydney classes. Special thank you to Gordon Coss who steps off the NSW committee as Finance Controller, but he continues with DPA National. We welcome Paul Lister to our NSW committee as our Financial controller. Thank you to our committee.

We are so grateful to Inner West Council, Waverley Council, Mosman Council, Georges River Council, Concord Rotary, Waitara Magpies and the Hornsby RSL for their full or partial financial support of the classes. Thanks also to Parkinson’s NSW for their continued advocacy and support of our program.

2025 looks to continue to be a full, busy and fun year so we look forward to seeing you in person or online to dance, chat and be part of our community. Have a happy and safe festive season!!
