Shout out – Mina’s Dance for PD Journey
My Dance for PD journey began in Australia, where I was first introduced to the program and later volunteered in Dance for Parkinson’s Australia classes at Queensland Ballet, led by Erica Rose. Seeing participants express themselves.
Through music and movement, connect with one another, and experience the joy of dancing had a lasting impact on me.
What I learned at Queensland Ballet continues to shape the way I teach today. Treating each participant as a dancer, offering movement choices for different abilities, and using music, imagery and creativity to inspire movement are principles that remain central to my classes. Those early experiences became an important foundation for my journey as a Dance for PD teacher.
After returning to Korea, I continued my Dance for PD training and became the first certified Dance for PD teacher in Korea. Today, through Art in Movement, which I founded, I provide movement programs supporting the health and wellbeing of older adults and specialised dance programs for people living with Parkinson’s. I also offer recorded classes for Korean participants living overseas or those unable to attend in person.
Art in Movement is Dance for PD-based classes are now offered in hospitals and community organisations across several regions of Korea. It is very meaningful to me that the journey I began in Australia is now continuing and growing in Korea. I hope to keep connecting and sharing with Dance for PD teachers around the world while helping Dance for PD reach more people living with Parkinson’s in Korea.
